Where I stayed
Today was a breeze for driving compared to yesterday! We arrived in Freeport, IL about 1:30pm. It was quite interesting to drive right through Chicago, but the traffic wasn't nearly as bad as Cleveland at rush hour.
I've discovered a way for Vermont to make money...Toll Booths. Holy Cow! We have probably spent almost $30 in Toll Booth charges. What happened to $.75 or $1.00 for a Toll? It's ridiculous! Of course we could have the GPS avoid Tolls, but then who knows where we would end up so I'll just suck it up!
We saw 2 Richard I Green trucks at one of those above Toll Booths just outside of Rockford, IL. For those of you that don't know, they are located in Enosburg Falls! Small world...
Happy 1/2 Way to St. Patty's Day! The restaurant downstairs is celebrating it today. They had all sorts of Irish food specials and Smithwicks on tap for $2.50 and a live band tonight!
On August 27, 1858, the most significant of the historic Lincoln-Douglas debates took place in Freeport and gave the nation direction in succeeding years. Although Douglas won the election and retained his senate seat, his reply to a question on slavery alienated the South, which called it the "Freeport Heresy," and split the Democratic Party. This enabled Lincoln to win the Presidency in 1860.
We went to Fiesta Cancun Authentic Mexican Restaurant for dinner and had the biggest Margueritas EVER! 46 ounces! Food was really good too!
Time to rest up for the big Festival tomorrow!!!
