Dubrovnik is a truly stunning city! It was more or less saved from bombing during the wars and so most of the architecture is original...
Once again we stayed in lodgings that we found on Hostelworld, called Petra Guesthouse, which was basically a mans house and we just occupied one of the rooms...it was right in the heart of the old town! An amazing location! Plus the man brought us his wifes home made sherry...these house/hotel places really make one feel at home!
Our first memory of the city is walking from the bus station into the city, which was supposed to be a fairly short distance, but due to our older lonely planet map, we didnt know that the bus station had moved farther out and it was quite the hike!
Its not a cheap city, by Croatian standards, but its worth a visit!
And when eating out, expect the same menu everywhere! We had to go out of the old town, only about 5 minutes and we went to a Mexican restaurant, to get away from the ever present Dalmatian cuisine...
On the whole, we lazed away our days wandering around as there was always something new to discover around the cobbled streetcorners...
There was a bar on the cliff side, that you have to wander through the streets to find, as well as 2 Irish pubs, where we celebrated St Pattys day, even if it is far more subdued in Croatia!
If you go to Croatia, go to Dubrovnik! A day or two will suffice, but it is truly a beautfiul city!
