Hello!

We arrived in Finland via a cruise ship!  I was quite excited as it was my first night spent on a boat...however we were relegated to the furthest lowest cabin on the boat!  Twas terrifying!  I couldn't sleep the night because I kept worrying that we would crash and I would drown on the boat!

We are nearing our end in Scandinavia and hopefully with our exit of these countries, we may be able to eat a decent meal without going broke!

Finland is also a very picturesque city, as there is a nice mixture of the old and the new here.

Again, because it is in Scandinavia, there is a prerequisite for it to be crazy expensive, however luckily for us this time, the hostel has a very well equipped kitchen and so we have been consuming toast and tea in great quantities...

As far as activites go here, drinking is more or less the number one past time!  I kid you not!

So of course to culture myself, I 've been drinking with the locals and the fellow hostel goers that we have encountered...trying to keep up with the boys is more challenging than I thought and has led to a few uncomfortable moments, but it is getting me ready for Russia, the land of Vodka...Interesting fact, while you can't drink in the streets in Finland, they will certainly let you in the bar, even if you're drunk and can no longer stand...There's no limit to one's intoxication!

Our hostel in Helsinki was quite cozy, it was called Erottajanpuisto, God knows how to pronounce that!  We met a lot of people from all over there and partied it up many a night!

We met people from England, Australia, Canada, BC though, France, Italy, Switzerland, etc...

As far as sightseeing, unfortunately, a vast majority of sights are closed or limited during the winter [for obvious reasons], but we've still managed to see a lot of gorgeous buildings, as as Suomenlinna, a UNESCO fortress, which is sprawled across several islands just southwest of Helsinki...

I have also met up with an old neighbour, who I went to elementary and Grade 7 with!  I haven't seen him in 9 years or so, but we've met up and hung out a lot since I got here!  I had dinner at his house with his mother and sister in a smaller city about an hour north of Helsinki, called Porvoo!  As it was my first home-cooked meal in 10 days or so, I ate a lot!

I shall try to be more adventurous as the weather gets warmer and put more interesting stuff in here,...

Cheers

It may not rate up there with finding a school buddy in Helsinki, but managing to cross the ocean on the same flight as three of your Barista regulars was pretty neat.

So I was back in for my TNA today... our journey has been and gone, and yours has only started... Good Luck!!!
