A wonderful Ferry Ride to NYC onboard the free Staten Island Ferry....Great views along the way across the Narrows from Staten Island to Battery Park, NYC..I should have taken a taxi to the SSMC Club, but chose the NYC subway across town to Downtown Manhattan at Grand Central Station...What a mistake with my luggage for a 3 month stay in NYC..Not!!!  I cannot seem to pack light.....I checked into the SSMC on Lexington Ave late afternoon.. My accomandations were great for the low rate of $60...I did share a room with a Navy Veteran  who turned out to be a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman, Neath Williams from Texas...It was great to share our war stories with his from Iraq (x 3) and mine from Viet Nam....What a big change in the delivery of combat medicine on the battlefield...Neath had plans to live in NYC and follow his dream of the Theater as an Actor...
I had dinner at a nearby Italian Resturaunt with a former classmate from Strong Vincent High School, Erie, PA...Lynne Brookhauser Robinson moved to NYC soon after high school and calls the Big Apple home...She would be my personal tour guide for the week...Short subway ride to Times Square and to Broadway...Attended Billy Elliot at the Imperial Theatre...It was the 2009 Tony Award winner for the Best Musical....Stunning choreography with music from Elton John's score..A great end to my day in NYC with a 360 degree view of Manhattan and the Hudson River from the city's highest rooftop lounge at the Marriott Fairfield Inn and Suites, Times Square..A cold beer sure tasted good listening to piano music which included my all time favorite "Wonderful Tonight" written by Eric Clapton.  A short and wild  taxi ride back to SSMC...  I have never ever seen so many taxis and limo's in one night....all so exciting if you are a small town boy from Lake Monticello, VA...
