The Slump of Belize City
Entry 18 of 79 | show all | print this entry |
After a good night sleep, the first thing we did in the morning was to eat something. We found a chines restaurant, there are so many here. Our first real meal in two days was chicken chowmein. Me and Juliette went for a walk about in the City. To my surprise (which was not mentioned much in the guide book) the city was totally a slump. I have been to South Central/Englewood, Los Angeles this summer to repo cars for the rental car agency, that was scary. Belize city on a scale of 1 to 10 was a perfect ten scary. I was little scared walking with Juliette, while black dudes watch on. Anyways, we made it through the day after visiting the Belize national library, university and other "tiny" landmarks. The marine terminal was very relaxing area compared to rest of the city. At night I played chess with a 50year old American X-marine in the hotel, while he smoked 2 packs of cigarette I try to concentrate on the World Series Baseball playing on TV. The Arizona Cardinals were playing the Yankees, I haven't seen sport in a long time, this was very refreshing.
