helloo all
well we are in Jerantut right now..it is the town just outside Taman Negara. Taman Negara is the world's oldest rainforest and was beautiful! we went straight from the perhentians to the jungle. we met up with 2 english people when we were in the perhentians, jo and jake, and travelled with them down to the jungle. We also met up with an english girl named harriet and an austrian named deedee along the way..the 6 of us ended up spending all our time together in taman negara.
the first night we took it easy...saw some pretty crazy looking bugs! and had dinner in a floating restaurant on the river.
The next day was our busy day. we opted against a tour guide to show us around, and the 6 of us set off
i am still suffering from DISGUSTING FEET (i have pictures if you guys really want 01 @ the viewpoint
01 @ the viewpoint
! haha) including a toe that is incredibly infected for no apparent reason. Sooo this means it was a pretty painful process putting on my runners. (i know you all love hearing about this! i can get graphic if you would like.......)
First thing in the morning we hiked up to the lookout (i still don't know how i endured the pain!). next we headed to the canopy. it was sort of similar to the capilano suspension bridge except there was about 8 seperate bridges that formed a little network and of course they were a little sketchier! (or as our english friends would say.."dodgier"). i was impressed that michelle just walked across them with little hesitation! (considering her fear of heights!)
after hobbling down the hill and having lunch we got a boat to take us all to the caves that are raved about. the trails weren't marked at all, but after a few wrong turns we finally found it. we all went right in, and found that the ceiling was COVERED in bats! in the end, the boys and i were the only ones who would actually go in...they weren't THAT impressive but it was pretty cool.
we were supposed to a night tour of the jungle but seriously, just as we were about to get on the boat to cross the river the biggest storm EVER started up! so unfortunately we weren't able to do it.

my bad luck continued when it came to seeing any exciting wildlife! NOTHING! only a few monkeys and lizards...
on the night safari (that you take a 4x4 on) you can see tigers and leopards and all that..but the brochure describes it like this, and i quote "Chances of seeing animals is high as the strong light temporarily blinds them and freezes them in their tracks!" i wasn't super keen on this so we had decided to do the walk instead. oh well the jungle was still really great, the sounds are incredible
anyways today we caught a 2 hour boat that took us from the jungle into the town where we are now. michelle and i saw a DEAD crocodile floating upside down on the river! The locals claim that there are no crocodiles in the river but really it was one! it was really close to us and was over a meter long! we weren't seeing things i swear!
we are catching a train at 2:30 (AM!) to johor bahru, which is just outside singapore. then after two nights in singapore we are outta here! hopefully we'll get pictures up tonight! talk to you all soon i hope!
