Destination 245:

km126'397

XXXXX

With my spare tube in the wheel and at blue sky I want to get a new tube, some food and also the latest weather forecast in Fairbanks to find out, whether it might be a good idea, to travel along the Dalton Highway up north. That Highway leads on a mostly unpaved road 500 miles to Deadhorse, where the last view miles to the northernmost point of America accessable by road at Prudhoe Bay is closed to the public traffic, because it's on the Oil Company's property who transports the oil in the pipeline across Alaska.
In Fairbanks I got too confused about the chaotic conditions of many road constructions why I only got the food and water and leave for the journey to north. Good luck!

Fairbanks - Livengood
This part of the Elliott Highway was asphalt paved but with its usual permafrost damages not the best. The langscape vast but flat hilly with a looot of forest.

Livengood - Yukon River
This part now as Dalton Highway was mostly gravel or naturalpavement road. Something what can be damned nasty to drive on at wet conditions! I just can hope it keeps to be dry... Landscape still hilly with still a lot of forest, but nice scenery and spots to see and visit the pipeline. Very winding road here but weather keeps to be sunny. I don't need to fill up with gas at the first of three opportunities at Yukon.

Yukon River - Coldfoot
This part was surprising well to drive as it was mostly asphalt paved with some short gravel patches. After the arctic circle it's beginning to develope some thunderstorms - will there some rain fall and will I miss the midnight sun?? At Coldfoot I fill up with gaz after 300 miles driven, but I face a unexpected massive mountain range (Brooks Range) which blocks the view to the midnightsun. I have to cross to north where it gets flat and where shouldn't be clouds.

Coldfoot - Galbraith Lake
I drive on natural paved road but at dry and mostly sunny weather through one of the most beautiful area of Alaska and finally cross a very steep passroad, the Atigun Pass from where it just started to rain heavily after I went through. I've done now over 400 miles, it's 8 o'clock and I'm just in front of that flat tundra area. But I'm tired and don't want go further on and I just have been cought up by the heavy rain. Because of the presence of bears in the area I build up my tent beside a Scientist's House at the Airfield of Galbraith where I feel save. But the rain is here - do I have to drive tomorrow those 400 miles on that slippery road I'll be dead! I just can hope...
