5.6.08:
Noch am ersten Abend in Smithers fuelle ich den Festplattenspeicher meines Palm mit Dateien, um idese auf die Neuen Speicherkarten zu verteilen. Dabei nehme ich (unwissend) auch den Speicherplatz in Anspruch, welches das Betriebssystem des Palm unbeding braucht - ohne Warnung! Der Palm stuerzt ab, der Neustart kann nicht mehr initialisiert werden und meine noch auf der Festplatte verbliebenen Dateien sind nicht mehr zugreifbar!

Ich wende mich verzweifelt ob des scheinbaren Totalverlusts aller Dateien an einen PC- Experten in Smithers: Er kann auch nicht helfen und auch auf der Webseite von Palm gibt es keinerlei Kontaktmoeglichkeiten, um dieses Problem zu loesen. Per Zufall entdecke ich zum ersten mal ein Menue, mittels welchen ich versteckte und unbenutzte Dateien loeschen kann und das Geraet und seine Dateien wieder retten kann!!!

Nach bekanntmachung meines Problems via E-Mail, erhalte Ich eine E-Mail von einem Freund, der mich auf eine Software (Jufsoft.com) aufmerksam macht, mittels welcher man eventuell geloeschte Dateien retten koenne. Das Tourist Information Centre, welches seit beginn dieses Debakels informiert war, stellte mir ihren voll zuganenglichen Privat- PC zur Verfuegung. Ich lade die Software runter und probiere es aus. Es funktioniert!!! Allerdings muss eine Lizenz erwerben, um die geretteten Dateien zu speichern - Ich warte mis Montag, um mich mit dem Experten zu unterhalten.

Der Experte scheint nicht sehr viel zu wissen. Er haelt (weiss) nichts von solchen Softwares und ist mir keine Hilfe. Ich versuche es auf eigene Faust, kaufe den Lizenz- Schluessel fuer 40 USD und kann meine Dateien retten.
Es wurden rund 500 Dateien wieder hergestellt, alle aber unter neutraler Bezeichnung, welche ich nachfolgend zuordnen muss. Happy End?
10./ 11.6.08:
Fazit der Angelegenheit: Es herrst schoenes Wetter, die Moskitos beissen (MS4) und nicht ganz alle Dateien konnten gerettet werden. Die wichtigsten aber sind dabei, doch alles muss sortiert und neu bennant werden - sehr viel Arbeit! Doch ein neues Datensicherungssystem macht das ganze zwar zu einem enormen Aufwand, doch es sollte nun nichts mehr vergleichbares geschehen!
13.6.:
Mit grossem Dank an das Tourist Information Centre und den Municipal Campground Smithers fuer ihre Unterstuetzung breche ich wieder zur Reise nach Alaska auf. Ich erreiche nach 3 Tagen Fahrt auf dem teils sehr schoenem (vor allem der Abstecher nach Stewart) Highway 37 durch meist unberuehrte Landschaft Watson Lake. Etwas ausserhalb ist mein Versuch in ein Waldstueck zu fahren gescheitert, weil ich im Morast stecken blieb und einen Helfer benoetigte um das Motorrad zu befreien. Dieser blieb anschliessend dann auch gleich mit seinem Auto stecken...... Scheisse kann jedem passieren!

At the same evening in Smithers I fill the local drive of my Palm with files to sort them out to different memory cards. For this I also occupy that part of memory space required to run the operating system of my Palm - without any warnings! My Palms crash down, but the restart can't initialize successfully due of too low available memory space and all my other files saved on the local drive won't be accessible anymore either!

Due to the fact of a obviously entire loss of my files I desperately visit a Computer- Expert in Smithers: He can't help me either and also the website of Palm doesn't offer any contacts to solve this problem. By accident I discover for the first time a tasklist where I can delete hidden and unused files how I was able to save the Palm and its files on the local drive!!!

After reporting the problem via E-Mail to friends I receive a mail from a friend, who mentions a software (Jufsoft.com) to recover deleted files on a memorycard. The Tourist Information Centre, introduced to my problem from the first day, offered it's personal und fully accessible computer. I download the software and try it out. It really works!!! But to save the recovered files on computer, I need to purchase a Licence Keycode - I wait untill Monday to ask the expert about this.

The Expert doesn't seem to know too much. He doesn't know this kind of software and can't help me. So I try it by myself and purchase the Keycode for 40 USD and can safe my files. There were nearly 500 files recovered but all named by a new neutral name, which has to be sorted out now. Happy End?
10./ 11.6.08:
Final experience: It's sunny weather, the mosquitoes bites (MS4) and not all files could be recovered. The most important one could be and have to be sortet out and renamed to their original name - very much work! But a new data safety system makes it to an enormous efford to save all files, but from now on a comparable case shouldn't happen again!
With special thanks to the Tourist Information Centre and Municipal Campground Smithers for their support I get up to continue the trip to Alaska again. After 3 days of travel along the mostly (especially aliong the sidetrip to Steward) very pretty highway 37 across mostly untouched wilderness I reach Watson Lake. A bit outside of town I tried to access a forest but failed as I got stuck in the mudd and needed a helper to get the bike out of it. Afterwards the helper himself got stuck with his car as well...... Shit happens to anyone!
