Flag of Vietnam  , Halong Bay,
Friday, March 1, 2013

I have never been on a cruise before and didn't quite know what to expect from our overnight-er. As it turned out it became more and more like an episode of Poirot by the minute. Instead of the Nile it was the Halong Bay but the boat was painted white and the cabins looked like they were straight off the set. The lunch was served in a splendid dinning hall and I am writing this from the sun deck! All that was missing was a murder (thankfully) and the great man himself - although we had a real character in our Vietnamese guide.
Tomorrows episode of Poirot starts with a 3 hour drive back to Hanoi and then an overnight train down to Hue! I'll be watching my back!!
p.s. The Vietnamese believe that Halong Bay was created by a dragon to protect them from foreign invaders - little did they know that we would comeback as tourists!
