So after our long trip from chicago we arrived in michigan and it was cold! the place we were staying was called anchor bay and it's north of detroit .opn the first day after getting a lot of sleep we woke up pretty late and headed to the family favourite restraunt called Ponchos, its a mexican place. during the day it snowed all day and once we had a tour of the area we went and picked up catherine's kids (courtney-14, griffin-11, chloe-8) from school and headed home. after contemplating going out or not that night due to the snow we did head to this pub called full kilt which was actually better than i had imagined but more irish than scottish but they did sell tennents! but due to the snow it was pretty empty so we decided to call it a night and headed back as the snow was getting pretty heavy, we got bout 8 inches i think.
the next day the snow had continued during the night and the kids had a snow day but catherine had planned to take us into detroit and show us around so the kids stayed at home with a friend and we went in. first we went to mexican town and got some toscados which are very tasty and then went to a mexican bakery too. after this we headed down 8 mile at my request(this is because this is the title of the eminem film and the film is shot in this area) and we got our photo taken at one of the signs as you can see when you look at the photo those are very nervous smiles due to this not being one of the friendliest places in detroit. after this we headed down town and seen various sites like the spirit of detroit, the ambasador bridge(which connects to canada), the joe louis fist and the detroit tigers baseball stadium, no game on but pretty cool stadium.
on friday 8th me and kev along with catherines dad, fran, tagged along on chloes school field trip to the ford rouge factory were they make all the ford trucks. this was very interesting as you get to walk on a raised platform around the assembly line and see all the trucks coming together, also they have a couple of movies to watch. the whole site is absolutly huge but you only stay in the one bit.luckily we lost the field trip because there was about 100 screeming 7-8 year olds and they were driving me mental. once we caught back up with them we went back into town for a bite to eat and then back home. at night they had arranged for all of kev's family from over there to come over to the house as well as friends so that was good fun though a bit strange for me to be at someone elses family get together.
on saturday we went to see chloe play football i the morning as she plays for a local under nines team. probably a similar standard of football im used to seeing at easter road some of these girls were probably better than some of the hibs players though. there were lots of screaming mum's and dad's shouting at their children and jumping about going mental if they scored. i found this very weird. luckily catherine wasn't like that even though chloe was by far there best player. anyway after this we got a bit to eat an headed to the train station to get a train back to chicago at 6pm. it arrived in chicago at 10.30pm (hour difference though so it took 5 and a half hours) once there we got picked up from mum and dads friends danny and kate which is were we are now staying with them.
before i go i would like to appologise for my awful speeling in previous blogs and probably this one but im sure you knew what i ment when you read it,speak soon, px

At the Redwings Game
we also went for a bite to eat and for dessert i had been told to get a deep fried twinkie(it's a american cake thing with cream in it) which was very nice but very filling. once home we picked up the kids and headed to a local sledging place and did some sledging for a while, really good fun . this was the first time i had been sledging since i broke my ankle in 2nd or 3rd year but atleast there was snow on the hill this time. i actually totally took out a little girl on the hill, i don't think she understood my cries of "get oot the waaay!!" but she seemed alright but i don't think she understood my apology either. i was just waiting to get a word of her parents when i got back up the hill but that didn't happen. anyway at night me, kev, catherine and her friend christina went back into detroit for a detroit redwings game(ice hockey) they were playing the LA Kings and got beat 5-3 but was a lot of fun and it was 80's night so they were playing some pretty good tunes (final countdown and the beverly hills cop theme among others) then we headed back home.on friday 8th me and kev along with catherines dad, fran, tagged along on chloes school field trip to the ford rouge factory were they make all the ford trucks. this was very interesting as you get to walk on a raised platform around the assembly line and see all the trucks coming together, also they have a couple of movies to watch. the whole site is absolutly huge but you only stay in the one bit.luckily we lost the field trip because there was about 100 screeming 7-8 year olds and they were driving me mental. once we caught back up with them we went back into town for a bite to eat and then back home. at night they had arranged for all of kev's family from over there to come over to the house as well as friends so that was good fun though a bit strange for me to be at someone elses family get together.
