We spent two nights and one day in Malang enjoying the old Dutch colonial architecture and then the enormous bird market. I think after smoking, exotic birds would be the Indonesian passion.

We spent a couple of hours wandering the market area, the streets being walled with cages containing every imaginable type of bird. The cages also housed other creatures such as dogs, cats, bats, monkeys and a number of small mammals that had been plucked from the jungle, and I am sure were not supposed to be there.

Once we were done wandering the town and its markets we headed North to Surabaya so that we could catch a flight to our next stop the island of Lombok.
