Whilst having dinner in Tal we met a dutch couple who had travelled a very similar route to us in Africa. At one point we were only a couple of days away from meeting each other around the Christmas period in Malawi.

When they heard we had been to Malawi they asked if we had been to Chizumulu Island, we replied we had. They then asked if we had been swimming in the water surrounding the Islands only guest house. We replied of course as there was nothing else to do.

They then told us that they were not allowed to go in the water surrounding the lodge as 2 days after we left, the guest house's dog had been eaten by a crocodile! So instead of spending their time lazing in the bay water they spent their time watching local Police unsuccessfully try and shoot the huge animal.

We remembered the dog well as we took it for a walk several times. But and what adds to the tragedy was that the dog did not belong to the guest house owner nick, he was only looking after it as his friend returned to England for the holidays!

After learning of our near miss in Malawil we then walked the extremely long road to Chame completing it in just under 10 hours.
