Where I stayed

Flag of India  , Uttar Pradesh,

We spent two full days and one night in Varanassi. The city sits on the Ganges and is regarded by the Hindus as being holly and where they come to burn their dead.

Walking along the temple lined banks of the Ganges was one of the strangest experiences we have had. Cows, monkeys and dogs squabbling over unwanted food, dead bloated animals floating next to bathers all whilst dead bodies burn along the river edge,  before they are thrown in to the river by loved one. The city really seems to be from another world.

We then took a 7 hour overnight train then a 4 hour bus to the India Nepal border. We got our Nepalese Visa then took an uncomfortable overcrowded 10 hour bus to Kathmandu which left us very tired as we arrived just before midnight.
