We spent two nights in Nampula trying to arrange a bus-athon as far south as Vilankulo.

The bus was due to take 20 hours, and we arrived at the station an hour early only to find it had been delayed 3 hours to 1pm...

Once on the move the drive was very pleasant, and we were making good time as we arrived at the Zambezi river toll bridge just after 9pm.

At the toll bridge, the driver informed us of the opening hours - 4am - 9pm.

After the driver set off three hours late I was sure he was going to deliver a clever solution to redeem his lack punctuality. He did not disappoint, and offered us the opportunity to sleep at the side of the road until 4am, whilst he went off to sleep at a mate's house!

So, sleeping bags rolled out on the mud and a healthy application of mosquito repellent as we tried to get some sleep. It was relatively comfortable apart from the mosquitos'. The repellent kept most away, although we could hear great numbers buzzing above our faces as we tried to doze off.

The next morning we climbed back on the bus at 4am nursed our bites and completed a 27 hour trip that goes down as our hardest yet.
