We arrived slightly harder of hearing and checked in to our hotel which was a very reasonable $4.

The main attraction in Kilwa Masoko are the ancient ruins on the island of Kilwa Kisiwani. We took a boat out to the island and spent a day wandering around the ruins.

The reason for the Hotel being so cheap was due to it being so close to the lake, and the clouds of mosquitoes that hang out around the room's light bulbs'.

After two nights and about a thousand bites in Kilwa, we got the 5am 5 hour bus to Bungu and then a 2 hour dala dala to Namasatie. At Namasatie we just missed the daily boat to Mafia Island, so, along with 8 other locals we arranged a speed boat to the island.

It arrived after another three hours and they packed up the boat like they were trying to sink it, before the 10 of us climbed in for a very bumpy, wet and uncomfortable 2 hour journey to the island.

The journey was around 14 hours all in and the hardest we had faced to date.
