The bus set off from Addis at 5am, the pain killers had now worn off I realized that my throat had continued to get worse. To add to matters Charlie encountered every civilized human's worst nightmare.

A 9 hour bus ride through the country side with no toilet on board and severe traveler's diarrhea.

Charlie had to beg the driver to pull over several times and then dash off to find somewhere to relieve herself. It was an awful situation.

By the time we got to Bahir Dar Charlie was a wreck and when quizzed about her hotel preference all she could reply was "All I to be near a toilet"

The main attraction of Bahir Dar are the Island monasteries. We both found these a little under whelming. What I enjoyed most about these was meeting a monk who spoke a bit of English. He showed us  the monastery and some of its valuable relics. I questioned the security of these relics and said I would be back later that night to pinch them. He just looked at me and said "I will wait for you TRY YOUR BEST" - I thought this was a great reply from an 80 year old monk.

After 3 nights in Bahir Dar my throat had still not improved and I was unable to eat or speak without heavy pain killers. I spoke with another doctor who said that my throat was infected and that the antibiotic (Amoxillin) I was taking was most likely fake. I moved on to a different batch of Amoxillin followed by another night in Bahir Dar and then further North to Gondor
