Day 9 Part 2 The Hague
I am leaving Brugge and headed for the Hague. It is officially called VVV den Haag, Nederland. I map it in my GPS and I am off. The drive is beautiful, I pass a couple of Windmills and stop to take pictures. It is getting late in the day so I do not get off the main road and drive any closer to them. I just want to make it to the Hague and get a hotel somewhere tonight. It's about 129 miles from Brugge. As I am nearing Antwepen I cross the Schelde-Rhine Canal, there are a lot of Wind farms here. A Wind farm is a group of interconnected wind turbines, just like the one we have in America. They are all along the canal. I guess this is the modern day version of the Windmill.
About 61 miles out from Brugge, I go through a tunnel and just on the other side of the tunnel I see a sign that I enter the Nederlands. Weird, no customs or anything to go through, just a regular freeway. I pass through Bergen op Zoom, then Roosendaal, Klundert, I drive over the bridge over the Hollandsch Diep waterway. The bridge is 2 kilometres long. It is the longest bridge on the HSL route Amsterdam-Paris. I get to Rotterdam and decide to just drive around the city a little and take a look.. There are more modern updated looking building in Rotterdam. They actually have some pretty cool looking buildings here. I do not stop, so I don't get any pictures. I think I see the Kubuswoningen though, they are pretty cool looking. Just Google Kijk-kubus and you will see what I am talking about. They are hard to describe.
The Hague is only about 15 miles outside of Rotterdam. It is an amazing city. Kind of like where old meets new in Europe. It has the most amazing new age architecture I have ever seen. I just kept driving around looking at the town. It's starting to get dark, so I better be on the lookout for a hotel . I decide to drive a little outside the Hague. I figure the hotels might be a little less expensive. After driving a little while I realize, these are really small towns and I am not seeing any hotels. It's dark now and I am seeing a lot of waterways, probably the North Sea. I decide I better stop and use my GPS resources to find a hotel. I find a lot of them in Noordwijk aan Zee so I head that way.
