To Hurghada
Entry 17 of 25 | show all | print this entry |
Once again, thanks to Hamis Travel Services, our tickets on the public bus to Hurghada had been purchased in advance. A local agent also took us to the bus station, a very unimposing place. The trip itself was uneventful, with several stops along the way.
We arrived in Hurghada later than scheduled on a gray, windy day and checked into the Empire Hotel. This is a large centrally located 3-star hotel. In spite of its size it had a welcoming atmosphere. Our original plans had included a ride on the Sinbad submarine, which allows you to explore the Red Sea for a price of about $50 a person. Our late arrival and the rough seas ruled this out. We did visit the Red Sea Aquarium on the Corniche. Although this is a small aquarium with small tanks, it does have the fish you might actually see if diving or snorkeling. So it is useful as a little study stop. We enjoyed it and it was the only chance I got to see Red Sea fish.
When we returned to the hotel, there was some dancing going on in the lobby which added a festive air to an otherwise dull day.
