Shannon National Park
28 - 30November 2008
We had heard about this great spot and also found it in our trust Camps 3 book, Shannon National Park.  You are out in nature, but they have flushing toilets and hot showers, bunk cabins, fire rings, bbqs and picnic grounds.
We arrived there after our visit to Fonty's Pool and Manjimup surrounding areas.
First day was to just settle the kids down to the realization that every camp area, did not have a recreational park and contact fun and interaction for them.  It is hard getting them re-activated with their imagination and making fun.
We made a fire on the first night and cooked our steaks and sausages.  Now Liam is hooked on lighting fires - great!
Second day we went on a 4 kms walk to a dam in the park.  It was great because it had lots of obstacles for the kids to conquer, such as bridges, logs to cross the river, flooded areas which took quite a bit of skill.
We were all buggered at the end of our journey, after quite a few stops and lookouts and photo opportunities, took us just on 3 hours to reach base camp.
We found old ruins of the town, an old golf course, soccer oval, water pumping station, lots of wildlife and the sounds of the forest were great.
The kids were so knackered that they were happy to just hang out on the second day.
Second night we do not have a fire - it is raining once again - it never stops so far down south.  Liam is mortified, because we promised him he could start the fire tonight and we would teach him, but you cannot pick the weather.
