Today was the day of my Highland Tour.  It started off pretty nicely as the company I had chosen to go with offered a collection point right outside my hotel... Sweet!

Okay it did mean that I had to get up to be on the bus stop by 7.45 which up here at this time of the year means... Dawn...

Apparently they were expecting weather, as the roads and footpaths had been salted over night.

Bill our driver picked me up and we headed down to the next pick up point... only to get a message that some stragglers had been left behind and could he go back into New Town to pick them up... they hadn't made it onto the computer or something...

So we were delayed an extra few minutes.

Bill kept us entertained as we headed out of Edinburgh towards Stirling on the way to the highlands.  He was regalling us about the fact that when they decided to put up a new statue to the Scot Legend William Wallace, the city council came across a bit of a snag... they knew from descriptions what his body looked like... but no real idea of his features... So... after much deliberation they finally settled on a face...  Try to guess... yup... Mel Gibson!  The people were so annoyed that they have renamed the statue William Gibson.

Speaking of Braveheart... I got to meet one of the stars of the film today...  at our first stop in the Hamlet of Callander.  He was a very nice highland chap... lived up to the expectation in the "shagginess" department.

Meet Hamish... The Highland Bull!

13 years ago film makers required a very imposing HIghland Bull for the film, and Hamish got the job!  After they had shot him out, he was destined to become someones sunday roast.  However the crew had grown to love this docile pile of shag, and put a advert in the local paper - Highlan Bull - free to good home.  Condition - death must be of natural causes.

The Tea house that we stopped for our morning cuppa now is the happy home of Hamish and his Mrs!

He is the most photographed Highland Bull in Scotland... dare we say... the World!

And he's a bit cute to boot!

Must admit... getting out of the nice warm bus into the lower end of the Highlands... a might nippy!
