We booked a hostel for our first night in Adelaide, but didn't hold out too much hope. The woman at reception said reception didn't open til 5pm (ON A SATURDAY). What kind of hostel must this be, Thom and myself telepathically said to each other?

Well, this hostel seems to be like the rest of the city: Flight Travel, a travel agents in the centre of Adelaide: Closed weekends, as was a Cafe Nero-type coffee shop. In fact, the one coffee shop we did manage to find, tried to chuck us out at 3:30pm. This city might take more adjusting to than we thought, and that's not just the silly time zones!

The hostel was a bit of a dump to be honest with you lot. The kitchen was only half there. Not the room itself - a bulldozer hadn't demolished most of it, but there were only a handful of plates, and very few pans etc, so 75p pasta was a bit of a struggle. We were on the ground floor next to reception, and right on the main road.

You know I said Adelaide was dead at 3:30 on a Saturday afternoon, well everyone's obviously just getting ready for the night life, because once that starts it doesn't stop. Neither me or Thom are that bothered about hitting the clubs of Australia. We've done it in Southport enough times & are quite bored of it. We'll quite happily talk to people we meet like The Grapes in either the hostel, a pub or a bar, but going to somewhere like Bar Chav (Bar Non for all you non-knowers), or Wave-at-chavs (Waverleys) fills us with a sense of nausea, and to be honest we'd rather catch ebola.
