The journey from the end of the Ocean Road to Robe was very boring. We drove through fields, plains and salt-lakes for hours and hours, seeing nothing along the way apart from petrol stations, and the odd motel. Australia is great like that - someone decides to just live completely isolated, 80km away from anyone, and that's normal!
We made our way North along the Costal Highway until we got to the beautiful town of Robe, just inside South Australia. Before I talk about Robe I'm going to rant about SA. It is HALF AN HOUR behind Melbourne, at GMT+9.5 WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THAT?!?!? But in my annoyance of trying to work out when it's ok to call home, I've found that SA and NT aren't the only places in the world - Iran is 3.5 hours ahead, India is 5.5hours ahead and worst of all, Kathmandu in Nepal or Tibet (same thing) is 5:45ahead. WHY???
Back to Robe - it's a quiet little fishing village, with beautiful beaches and really good restaurants. We ate at a Chinese, which was the cheapest, but it was still quite expensive. We made up for it though, by making our own jam sandwiches by using page 3 of Zoo as plates!
There are no hostels in Robe, so we stayed in the cheapest motel we could find, which was only $85, compared with the $120 in Inbred-City, sorry Queenstown, Tasmania. For this $85 we got en-suite, which means toilet attached, a fridge, tele AND SWIMMING POOL!!! Not bad, eh?!
The only bad thing about the motel was there were lots of ants by our door, but I soon put that right by pouring cooking oil down the nest holes. Normally I would let animals live in their natural environment, but ants are just silly and irrelevant, a bit like 'frogs'.
