Woke up nice and early ready for our very long journey back to Launceston (around another 300km!). We were quite pleased to get out of Queenstown, if only for the mountain drive. Well, the drive lasted about 50km before we had to stop because there was smoke coming from the front of the car...

5 litres of water later, and the breaks were still boiling, so we decided to leave it for a half hour to cool down a bit. Tested them out once more to find that they had actually cooled down, but there were just no breaks left to use whatsoever. So, we drove the next 100km to the nearest town with no breaks at all. Well, that took pretty much every ounce of driver skill we had in us - not just me driving, but Thom did a really good job helping me plan for all the corners ahead. We were really pleased to get out of the car, knowing we had eventually driven safely all that way. Took the car to a mechanic, who replaced the brake pads and charged us $70 for the pleasure. Not much choice really though, I wouldn't want to do that again for all the tea in China, and apparently the Chinese do like their tea.

Eventually got back to Launceston at about 5:00, settled back into 'home', cooked our tea, played a bit of TT, ready for our competition to start tomorrow, and went to bed - it had been a really tough day all round really.
