Kuranda Koala Gardens.  Kuranda, 'Village in the Rainforest' ; original home to the Djabugay people, 220 to 380 metres above sea level.  Getting there is easy, from Cairns it is just a $4, half hour bus ride,.....up!  Those that like roller coasters would love the trip to Kuranda.  The tropical landscape is breath taking.  Rich dark greens and vibrant flowers of unusual shapes and sizes hanging or perched on limbs, cascading leaves with blossoms on the ends; endless surprises in odd places, well at least to we foreigners.

Kuranda is definitely somewhere we need to return to.  Walking  trails including 1,200 species of plants, orchids, figs, vines and oh do we love the palms, didn't know there were so many varieties.  The exotic birds, marsupials, gigantic lizards are all around you.  All harmless - well at least in that category!   The Venom Zoo, including the most venomous spider and snake in the world...nice to look at, but I don't think I want a 'photo-opportunity' with one of those!

This time we learned; _pack_ a lunch before you go, or you are a victim of their insanely high prices for take-away or dine-in food.  After feeding, scratching behind the ears of, Kangaroos, and Wallaby's scruff, it is back to the Koalas, these lovely things have to be the teddy bears from heaven!  They are so captivating in their laid-back disposition, and non-discriminating expressions.
Did buy a couple coffees though, $3.50 each, and they were the best darn coffees we've had since leaving Canada, then put together our sandwich fixings and cheese & cracker buffett lol rather sneakily at an outdoor cafe.
Today was a relatively short day for escapades, but we need a day or two of non-ten-mile walks! (~~tidbit of oddness: ....a third of the people don't wear anything on their feet!!!~~)
The temperature got up to 26, but mostly hovered on 23'ish, and not red-hot brilliant sunshine.  Yet as usual the nights are cool and sleeping is easy :-)  Oh, and speaking of sleeping, last night actually managed to stay up to 10 p.m.!  ....up until then we're toast by 8 p.m. at the latest!  Makes for really nice early mornings and early starts though.  The girls _always_ beat us to bed, their latest stay-up so far,  8:30 p.m. haha....can't complain though, as they are up with the sun also.  Probably has a lot to do with it getting dark before 6 p.m.
