The first real day at the office was good. My nose had stopped running and I was without fever. But as my sleeping rhythm was pretty fucked up I didn´t get to the office until 10.00. but as I´m not paid I guess no one really cares, including me. I meet Dauda, who works with conflict, and Aliyu who is the assistant director, assistant to the director (that one was to you Mr. Alvarenga). Then I had a meeting with the director who was a nice guy and he had much to tell me about my thesis, without reading a word of it. Very impressing. But even if he had little to contribute he printed it out and promised to look at it, as he is going on a two week trip to US and UK.

After that I found my desk and started working, only interrupted by the five million power cuts from a very fragile generator. I tried for an hour to send an e-mail before it flew into finally cyberspace. So I have to say that things were done, even if it is not important enough for you to read about them. I send an e-mail to the EFCC, which is the agency that tries to stem corruption in Nigeria, and I asked if I could get an interview with the director. I guess he will say no, but John had a friend in n EFCC so he said he wanted to help me anyway.

Around four the internet stopped working and I decided to go home. The rest were just sitting there talking and playing solitaire waiting for the watch to be five so they could go. I took a taxi home and decided to buy water. I bought 18 litre and hope that that will be enough for a while. On other matters, just before I started writing this at 20.10 (not the world cup, stupid) I called reception for an update on the water situation. The person replied that there were an long thin Jew with brown long hair wearing a white cloth and a rope in earlier, saying that the water would come like manna from heaven if I only said the magic word. I tried many words: please, thanks, me wish water in tub, sesame sesame, blob blob water is cool and many others. Then I realised that what the magic word was: Pretty fucking please with sugar on top. And as I´m writing this sentence the water is running like a charm. This is Øyvind Sandve from Abuja taking his first bath in a long time. By the way, anyone who wants to buy to very nicely used buckets?
