hi!!! I guess I should, at the very least, update my blog just to let people know I haven't fallen into the ocean and been swept out to sea or anything. I finish up my woofing experience here at the Green Monkey in 2 days, and I will say a few things about that. first, it's been a wonderful way to get to know not only a really special city, but good people who have come through the hostel and left. it's funny, because we all mention how, at random times we've had to just stop and literally tell ourselves outloud, ".. I'm in New Zealand." you kind of get into a groove and don't necessarily always remind yourself what you're doing, and why you came out here in the first place. luckily, NZ is a place with so many wonderful views and naturally spectacular things that you get a reminder every once in a while even if you don't expect it.

the new 'plan' (I use the term loosely on this trip) is that Aaron - one of the great people I've met in NZ so far - and I will be leaving here sometime on Wednesday and heading south. the only real  for sure thing is that I'm going to the Southern Amp concert on Sunday. aside from that, we're just gonna float around until we find a good (aka 'cheap') place to stay for a tiny bit and get in some sight-seeing whenever possible. Aaron's already done most of the South Island, save for Kaikoura - some place I really want to check out - and Milford Sound. so most likely I'll be dragging him to those places.. especially Fiordland. that is my mecca here. if I don't go there, part of me won't feel like I've *really* been in NZ for real. so hopefully that'll be sometime soon.

there aren't a ton of recent pictures, aside from some parts of Nelson I've already gotten to know, and people and things around the hostel. one lesson I've learned 3 times over since getting to the Green Monkey is how horrible a Monopoly player I am. oh man.. and a really really bad loser, at that. so, maybe I'll have to stay away from Monopoly for a while yet. it's not doing good for my morale to lose so many times in a row.

I miss everyone at home a LOT. doing Halloween here was so... odd, because of how insignificant it is in the culture of New Zealand. really, we went to a bar in town and altogether there were about 50 people dressed up. that was one of two bars in town doing anything to celebrate, too. wow. totally unlike home.
oh, and there has been Christmas decor in stores for about a month now. there is nothing left between now and Christmas, so that's what you find. talk about early!!
lots of love from across the sea
