I have heard of Antigua, but probaly couldn{t have guessed what continent it is located on.  ItĘs a beautiful world heritage colonial city about a half hour from Guatemala City.  It old and been destroyed by earthquakes, volcanos, pirates and more, but manages to survive with grace and charm.  It has amazing juxapositions of old and new, crumbled and renovated often painted in an amazing array of bright colors, or equally often white. Cobbled streets and lots of school children in bright red uniforms walk thru streets surrouned by three volcanos.   Lots of old buildings with huge wooden doors and scrolled metal. I don{t think I would ever tire of just walking around and know I could always find something amazing.    The McDonalds and KFC{s and lots of familar businesses are in these amazing old colonial buildings recently renovated and looking like 5 star resturants,  In fact the McCafe has just about  the best looking deserts in town, and this is a chocolate producing country so that is saying alot.  It is a tourist town, but manages it well and it seems like a place you could easily stay for months and many foreigners do.  If you are looking for a great place to holiday for a week or two this is a great destination.
