Where I stayed
What I did
16th of September
. It was now about 11 pm on Saturday night so, naturally, the streets were littered with staggering drunks trying to find their way home from the bars, street side fried chicken carts were doing a roaring trade with lines of swaying patrons desperate for a dose of salted grease to absorb the alcohol. Finally we arrive at AVENUE 16 de September were there was a Hotel Delphines, we were not morons after all.
Hotel Delphines was clean and compact, we went up two flights of clean white tiled stairs to a room with clean white tiled floors and clean white tiled walls, the ceiling was water white and dripped with the humidity. The aquarium was so close I could sense it. It was late, we lay down in our tanks and slept like fishes.
Arrived in Veracruz at 10 pm on Saturday night, Veracruz airport is nice and small, you can clear immigration while watching your bags go round the carousel, if you stretch, you can grab your bag while still behind the immigraton counter (although this was frowned upon). We were booked at the Hotel Delphine on 16 de Septiembre near the aquarium. We showed the Taxi driver the name of the hotel , no idea. We said "aquarium", nothing. Aquarium was not in our English Spanish dictionary. I tried "aquarium" using a intellectual English accent then proceeded to walk round in a circle opening and closing my mouth like a fish with my hands flapping at my shoulders. The taxi driver started to look concerned and made move towards the door, but we got into his Taxi before he could get away. We looked at the address on the booking sheet and Tiana told us we were morons because 16 de Septiembre was the booking DATE not ADDRESS and we were double morons because we had booked the wrong dates completely. We showed the Taxi driver the dates on the booking sheet, he knew where this day was and we were taken in his fine Ford Focus forward in time to 16 de September
