The journey has begun! Austin and I planned a 7 month trip in roughly 1 1/2 months and finally we are outbound! With our backpacks loaded and our passports in hand we departed the Charleston Airport destined for Lake Tahoe, Nevada to visit our brother Michaels new home.  As we arrived in Reno, NV a set of stairs met our airplane as opposed to a jetway, and climbing down the steep steps our senses were instantly assaulted by the frigid Nevada wind.  As we walked through the airport we couldn't help ourselves as the gleaming slot machines called our name.  No winnings yet.  Michael and his roomate/our friend, Will, met us and have been giving us a fantastic tour of this unbelievable place.

The Lake Tahoe area is truly amazing as the range of activities and sheer beauty of the wilderness surroundings is staggering.  We drove around the Lake the day before yesterday, traveling through scattered small communities that seemed to be built within the landscape of rock and towering pine trees as opposed to on top of it.  We ate delicious burgers from a local joint that offered a plate of fries rightfully named "The mess", an enormous pile of chili and cheese covered fries topped with onions that nearly broke through the plate it was served on.  After much digesting we even found a sweet spot to go sledding, leaving the hill with wet, snow soaked pants and frozen fingers, so worth it though.
Yesterday, we grabbed our snowboards and headed to the local ski hill, Heavenly.  Its pretty early in the season for Heavenly so just a few runs were open, but it was still a blast especially for how few people were skiing. Enjoying a cold beer from one of the mountain restaurants and reclining in some lounge chairs at the end of a run, we took a break while watching skiers and snowboarders fly down the mountain. Afterwards, we hit the grocery store to prepare for todays Thanksgiving Feast!  Growing up in South Carolina, deep fried turkeys are the way to go and oh so delicious, but this year we braved the oven to cook this years Turkey and you know turned out great.  Along with the Turkey, we filled the table with green beans, mashed potatoes, stuffing, biscuits, and cranberry sauce.  Well, on Saturday we head to San Francisco to meet up with a friend before our flight to LA on Sunday and from there we're off to Fiji!! Keep you posted!
