I gingerly snake my foot over the carry-on bags, dodging extended handles and glasses of water, en route to its final destination beneath my seat in the O'Hare Admirals Club. It is of the utmost importance I complete this maneuver with ninja-like stealth so as not to wake Ashley sleeping across from me.  She has been asleep since we arrived in Chicago and was showing no signs of…"Oh no!” I thought as my foot grazed a water glass on the table producing a loud rattle.  Her head began to wiggle.  Next, she let out an audible breath and then, the unthinkable, she awoke.  Her head lobbed forward like a baby and her body lunged towards our little table. 

Her next move I thought to be impossible for someone in her half-conscious condition.  Her hand emerged from the shadows of her seat as she swiftly snatched her phone.  In less than a fraction of a second the phone was switched on and she was texting.  Within 15 seconds she had completed a text to an unknown friend and was fast asleep once again.  No words were spoken.  The whole show was some sort of highly evolved instinctual girl reflex.  I snapped a picture, brought my other foot over to my seat, sat down and waited for our flight to Paris.
