This is the second time writing this as it didnt save properly the first time so i dont thinka s much detail will be put in as its quite late here now.
After a five minute trip down to kata beach in our cute little tuk tuk van we arrived at sugar palm resort. Already the feelign down here is a little bit more upbeat than relaxing karon beach. Our previous hostel did try to rip us off though when they quoted us 2500bht to get to Kata when our tuk tuk cost much much less.
Sugar Palm is really nice, spacious rooms and a distinct architectural look, the pool is black and overlooked by most bedrooms. On our first night we found a restarant that had really friendly staff and cheap food that we went quite a few times during our stay.
The beach is just a two minute walk away and is full of surfers and surfing schools so has a pretty cool feel, on our first day here we explored the area and booked the trips we wanted for the rest of our stay
Our first trip was to Phang Nga ( James Bond Island)
- here we visited monkey temple and buddha, there were tonnes of monkeys and bats hiding in the cave above
- we got a longtail boat to explore phang nga bay where there are lots of beautiful islands
- we visited a traditional fishing village and fish farm set in what looks like quick sand- would have been good except for the tourist stalls
- James Bond Island is tiny, we walked around the island in about 5 minutes, the big famous rock is really pretty and amazing how it just stands there and the slanted rocks are cool too. Unfortuantely they have spoilt the feel of the area with tourist stalls which is a real shame.
Our second trip was to Koh Phi Phi Don, Phi Phi Lei and Khai Island
- we arrived and met our hilarious guide who had the funniest voice i have ever heard in my life
- we jumped on the speedboat and headed to Maya Bay ( where they filmed the beach), we jumped off the boat to go snorkelling
- Maya beach is beautiful...well you can apprecaite how beautiful it was without all the tourists... the sand is soo soft and the views are amazing, it would have been good if we had more time to explore the national park
- Emerald bay is an area of water that is emerald green in colour and looks so inviting however we were advised not to swim in their ( i cant recall why though)
- Viking cave is where there are viking drawings on the wall, but there were hard to see from our boat.
- Monkey Beach - its bizarre how the monkeys live on the beach and they are really cute, we did see a couple fight which was pretty funy
- Phi Phi Don - we docked here where the tsuanmi hit, its hard to believe that a huge wave could appear here where the waters are so calm and peaceful.
- Khai Island - this was another snorkelling opportunity however you didnt really need to as the waters were shallow enough to paddle in and still see the colourful fish, crabs and sea congee. I was attacked by a fish here which hurt quite a bit (he he)
- Going on the speedboat was an experience they go so fast andwere particulary fun when it started to rain and the sea became choppy ...it literally bounced and smashed down on the waves really hard.
On our last day we booked an elephant trek...unfortunately i was really ill the night before that we had to cancel. I was quite dissappointed about it but we are hoping to do something similar in Bali.
I think i will miss thailands friendly people and food, but wont miss the constant hounding by tailors...so if you want a cheap tailored suit i reckommend you head to thailand!!
