We arrived in Hong Kong after a very lovely flight and everything here is huge... the buildings are enourmous, way bigger than i imagined. Its hard to describe but the pace of life here is fast but slow at the same time. Heres what we have done so far:
* Visted Victoria Harbour in all weathers, sun, mist and rain
* Visited the Avenue of stars and was aksed about our experiences by a group of chinese students
* Used the star ferry to cross victoria harbour on many occasions, very good value for money, frequent and fun ( 16p per trip)
* Watched the Symphony of lights at Victoria harbour on many an occasion- a series of 40 buildings performing a light show to classical music...amazing especially fist time you see it
* Took a trip up the Peak- an extremely steep tram ride to get to the top which is above all the buildings in hong kong ( very scary) and a trip on to the viewing tower. We couldnt make that last push to the viewing tower as it was sooo high and we both got vertigo where our legs couldnt move as the esculators were over nothing....very bizarre. The trip down was very scary and we were almost vertical!!! Brilliant views of the city though- i reccommen you visit at night to see the city at its best.
* Trip around Hong Kong Park- beautiful gardens in the centre of the city, you can't even see it until you get there, it is filled with cascades and waterfalls, there is an aviary and caged birds, a tai chi garden and a sars memorial which is very interesting.
* Temple Street Night Market - this is filled with lots of bargains and lots of really nice places to eat- a recommended place to visit!!
* The metro system is a great way of getting round the city and is very cheap, frequent and reliable
* It rained yesterday which was really nice as it was still warm and lovely to see the city in a different light.
* There are olympic mascots ( which are really cute) made into laterns all over the city and we have decided to stay to see the olypic torch come through on the 2nd May 2008.
I'm sure we have done much more, but i cant recall everything and at the moment i have flu... i think i will have to go to a pharmacy and get a mask soon so i dont infect everyone here ...as flu travels fast ( as they keep saying). They are also very safefty concious and quite controlling here, there are signs of what you can and cant do everywhere ( which i think is a great idea...maybe the UK could learn from this) anyway for now this is us in Hong Kong !!! Over and out!!
