We started the day in the botanical gardens of Wellington. This is the main city park and its grounds are very well cared for.  The park had several California trees such as oaks, redwoods, and sequoias. We meandered through the park and passed by ducks ponds full of fuzzy ducklings before exiting onto a street full of small cafes. Quick lunch and then it was off to the peak of the gardens for a birdseye view of the city.

After a quick stroll around the observatory at the top we decided to run a few errands and head off to the airport. We arrived near the airport with an hour to spare so we drove onto a hill to watch planes land while taking in the sweeping view of the bay.

Wellington would be a great city to spend a couple of leisurely days in, but alas we're off to Thailand...

Practicalities for those reading about travel in NZ:  We spent 9600 NZ Dollars for travel here this past month.  That's about 360 NZD per day for two people, including food, hotel, car, gas, flights between islands and misc expenses.  That's about $180 USD per day, which is below our estimated budget of $220 USD, partly thanks to the exchange rate.  Hotels were around $110-130 NZD per night.  Internet was expensive at an average of 4NZD per hour or 20NZD for a full night.  We ate well, usually two meals per day out in cafes and restaurants;  breakfast was usually cereal in the hotel room since there were fridges and kitches almost everywhere we stayed.

Signing off from New Zealand.  We loved it!
