We drove to Martinborough, which is the center of the wine growing region. It was pouring rain, but we got out of the car to take a few photos of the flower filled wheat fields. Most of the wine tasting places were closed but we found one winery serving lunch so we stopped for grub and booze.
It took about 2 hours to drive from Martinborough to Wellingston. En route we made several stops in scenic reserves. We spent an hour in one reserve that was the back drop for "Rivendell" in Lord of the Rings. The location was lush, wet, and filled with hiking trails... beautiful.
We drove into Wellington to find a place to stay, but after two hours of searching for a place with vacancy we gave up and went outside of town. Wellington was lovely and reminded us of San Francisco. The city was enshrouded in fog, nestled in a beautiful bay with colorful Victorian homes on hillsides. We are looking forward to spending the day there tomorrow before our plane back to Christchurch, from which we are flying to Bangkok.

Wow! I am having a wonderful, if vicarious, time following your adventures! Wow. Each time I read a few blogs I find favorite photos. Today, I was partial to some of the Hell's Gate and Thermal Wonderland images. I also am partial to some of the ethereal sheep/landscapes...some look like old paintings. I hope your camera woes resolve soon...but the G9, or instamatic, are actually doing some nice work. Loved Anastasia smiling at the end of the Monkey Walk!!!
