Neil took me for a big run in the country air. Well it was more of a jog/walk but we covered a lot of miles and it was good to get the lungs pumping. Then Lee, Lewis and Fin helped us get some firewood ready for the bonfire and a temporary stage for the firework display. The girls were in the kitchen getting the food ready.
The party was great we had a few people over and gathered around the fire. First New Year's Eve Party where I haven't needed an esky. You just leave your beer outside and it gets cold. We also got introduced to another US delicacy, Smores. These are crackers, called "Graham's" with melted marshmallows from the fire and chocolate inside.
Neil was the designated Firework tester and decided they needed to be lodged into the ground. We lit the first one and what a test. It burnt right down and shot up only about 4 feet into the air where 3 huge explosions of fire and sound scared the s*it out of us. Lucky it was just a few of the blokes and we pi**ed ourselves laughing. We then realised that the long stick part of the firework had to lean against something or go in a cylinder, not be jabbed into the ground.
The rest of the show was much more organised and the firework display was as good if not better than you'd get from a professional. All the kids enjoyed setting some off and the results were spectacular.
A few more drinks and a few more and it was 2012, we watched the historic ball drop from Times Square on TV and could identify with that as we had been right there a couple of days earlier.
