Oh, time just keeps flying so fast!!!
I keep thinking about updating the blog but I have been so busy since I became an instructor.
The high season is picking up in Phuket, so we have had a stream of customers and I have been "working" nearly everyday. My days start at 7am preparing our equipment, and return 12 hours later. It is a looooong day, but I LOVE this job. I had my first student, team teaching with another experienced instructor. Anni was from Finland and was just a ball of sunshine! She was always smiling and always excited to learn about diving and what we were going to do next. We had a blast!!
Since then, I have been working with other open water students and it has been a learning experience every single day.
I have also become good friends with Fon, a girl who works at our dive shop. She is working on becoming a pro diver but due to the language barrier, it is very difficult for Thai people to pass the written exam portion of the certification. So she studies hard everyday ;)

Last week, Fon and I went to the Loi Krathong Festival - it's an annual event where the locals pray for good things to come into their lives by releasing negative energy, karma, luck. During the festival the locals (of course the tourists also participate) either release offerings (made from banana leaves and flowers) into the ocean or lanterns into the sky. The sky was lit up with lanterns, that looked like stars! It was a beautiful night, to experience a piece of local culture again. Being here in Patong, where it is a tourist mecca, it is hard to experience an authentic culture anymore - so despite the massive tourists that packed the beach, it was still nice to see the locals practicing this annual tradition.

Ok I have to go to work now!
I am working with Emma, an American girl from Washington DC, on her last day of her Open Water course today!

Thanks for the update. Are you officially employed?

That festival sounds so divine. I love the idea of releasing the negative into the water...
