Well, the journey of backpacking, that is.
Did I mention that I left my beloved backpack in Tokyo? Now that I've began collecting scuba gear towards my new career path (wetsuit, fins, boots, hooded vest, snorkel, smb, etc), I needed a proper suitcase. It was sad saying goodbye to my backpack that traveled with me for 8 months!

After leaving Japan, I headed to Phuket to "kill time" for 3.5 weeks until my final diving trip in the Philippines. Well, I thought I'd have plenty of time on my hands but I managed to keep myself quite busy! Most importantly, I signed up for my instructor course at the end of Oct. Included in this course package were 20 fun dives so I went on about 10. Also, an instructor course started at the end of Sept so the shop generously allowed me to participate in some of the classroom, pool, and ocean workshops. I've started to study, prepare presentations, take exams and practice skills.
I thought Dive Master training was eye opening - but Instructor Course is another ball game. In Dive Master, the focus was on sharpening dive skills and understanding the world of ocean, customer service and business of diving. In the instructor course, the focus in on...well instructing!! It's one thing to understand HOW to dive - it's another concept to properly direct someone who has never dived before. It's been really overwhelming. There were a few moments when I questioned myself if I can really do it. I took a few walks on the beach to clear my head and cool off.
But I realized, one of the reasons I left NYC was to leave monotonous and stagnant life routines. I am finally being challenged and stimulated. This is a good thing!

I've also been focused on losing the extra weight I gained in Japan and getting back in shape! Great thing about Thailand is that there is an abundance of fruits - mangos, dragon fruit, papayas, mangosteens, etc. I'm so happy about that!
I also cut out carbs and sugar, and mainly consume fruits and vegetables. I've been jogging on the beach almost every day. I'm not sure exactly how much I've lost but I feel much better. But I must admit, I am missing some ice cream!!

Some typhoon is passing through SE Asia region at the moment and it's been cloudy, windy and rainy for 5-6 days now. It has not been fun. I caught a cold and was quite miserable for about 3 days.
I am now on the plane heading to Manila for my last diving trip. I am praying to the universe that the weather will be better there!!!
