When I left NYC over 5 months ago, I was on a search for some fulfillment. I was no longer interested in surviving life, I wanted to experience being ALIVE. I wanted to wake up on a beach, hear and smell the ocean, and put on my bathing suit every morning.
I am finally happy! So happy.
I love the peace of this island. In the morning and in the afternoon, the locals start placing offerings on the streets with incense and the fragrance fills the streets.
I walk to work every morning and can't believe this my life.

I walked by a cremation ceremony yesterday during my lunch break. There was a parade of what appeared to be an entire island, walking through the streets in a traditional attire. I was so tempted to take pictures but didn't feel it was appropriate. I just walked by and watched this fascinating event. I was told that a man passed from old age.

At night, the host family of our homestay prepared a BBQ for the guests last night and grilled some fish in the yard, with some rice and chili sauce. It was not only a generous gesture but so delicious!! And they didn't ask for anything in return. The entire family is so sweet and friendly. I feel at home here.

Today I got a bit of boost of confidence at work!
I was diving with a dive master and his group of 4 guests. One girl ran very low on her air much quicker than the rest of the group. So during the dive, the DM motioned me to take her to the surface. This meant I needed to take her to 5m to do our 3 minute safety stop, and put up a sausage to the surface (it's a long plastic bag that we inflate underwater to signal the boats that we are coming up). This is only my day 5 of my training! Although I know how to do this in theory, I've never been responsible for caring for a guest on my own! I was thinking "uhhhh, ok...." Lucky for me, another DM saw us and came to assist. I was able to deliver, with an assurance that another DM was with us.
But I still felt good knowing I was able to do everything right :)

By the way, I now have over 100 dives!! I'm in 3 digits... Wooooohooooooo

Stacy Argoudelis on

I was just laughing because the Masami of years ago would have loved to lie on the beach, but I would have never thought of this side of you - remember your 1,000-thread-count sheets you were so excited to have bought and warned me not to put my dirty feet on!!?? How funny how things have changed. Happy to see you so happy! (truly!)
