I'm super duper excited!!
I will return to land on the 15th.
I've spent most of the last 3 days researching my next leg of the journey in Indonesia. Now that the next couple of months will focus on scuba diving, I'm recognizing that my money will fly much faster. A decent room in Indonesia when I hit the islands to go diving will cost me $30/night on average. That's almost 4x what I've spent in Thailand and Laos, where I spent $7-8/night for a dorm!
Even as I spent just 3 days in Khao Lak, which is a beach town, I notice how much more expensive food/drinks are
It will soon be time for me to go on a peanut butter and bread diet. And eat mangoes for lunch. Like starting tomorrow. Sigh.
Today I was shopping in a kindle store for some books. There was a book that looked really interesting, but cost $15!!! Ridiculous. I could never pay that kind of money now for a book. That's a few days worth of food....
This is the downside to living on a beach. Cost of living is much higher. And, there is not much to see/experience in terms of local culture or way of life. As much as I love the beach, it saddens me that I will no longer walk through markets and observe the locals interact, watch women weave sarongs outside their home, or see naked kids running around in dirt. When I look around the beach scene, I am only surrounded by tourists :-(
I guess this is the compromise.
I'll take it for now. We'll see where I'll end up in a couple of months!
