We had quite a day from hell today!
Since we enjoyed our motorcycle ride in Bohol last week, we decided to bike around the island on Luis's last day today. The locals had informed us we would be riding through some dirt road, but we thought it just meant unpaved. We were not expecting a treacherous, rocky, steep, slippery gravel road that would be impossible for our rented 125cc bike.

First of all, we started the day without eating breakfast or packing water like true rookies. Never do that. Then we started hitting uphill which our bike could not handle. So I walked what seemed like forever under a scorching hot sun in my flip flops with nothing in my stomach or water to cool off. Once we started going downhill, the road was so rocky, bumpy and gravel-ly that we took several falls. On one fall I burned my calf against the engine and I had had it at that point!!
I was nearly in tears and I just wanted the day to end.
We eventually made it back to town 4 hours later, completely famished.
I never want to see a gravel road again. I'm also happy to never see a motorcycle again.

The only consolation is that we DID manage to drive through a couple of beautiful scenery. But I don't know that even those moments were worth the suffering!

Tomorrow I start Tao Expedition (http://www.taophilippines.com/) and will be out in the big blue sea for 5 days. I will have no access to the Internet so I will report back when I land in El Nido!!

In ten years - heck, next week, you'll look back at this and laugh your ass off.

Don't let one bad experience stop you from enjoying motorcycles. They can be very useful and easy to go around with. Remember, thats all part of adventure. I hope you have a great time on the expedition. I can't wait to hear impressions.

Hi Jake, you are right. The "horror" stories are usually the ones you'll remember the most and talk about years later!
Oli, thanks. I know, I may reconsider once the blisters on my calf heal!

Its part of the journey, at least you can say you did it rather than I wish I did.....
( but if this happened to me, my blog probably would have been full of expletives!!! )
