In 1944, 10 Japanese ships were sank by the American military and each ship has become a famous wreck dive in Coron.
We dived 2 wrecks today and these were completely different from a reef dive! Rather than being in awe of the colorful, beautiful marine life, a wreck dive represents a sad history of war, death and loss. As we dived through the corridors of the ships, I couldn't help but picture the faces of people who were on those ships 70 years ago and the families who mourned for them. For me, the wreck dive was a bit eery and emotional. But this is still part of a diving experience and I was left with a profound respect for LIFE.
We had a goooorgeous day of sun and blue skies and we saw some stunning mountain/cliff views on the 1-hr ride to/from the dive sites. The boat captain cooked lunch for us between the dives, consisting of fresh fish, curry vegetables and sweet chicken. It was yet again another fantastic day.
And to top it all off, we went to a hot springs after the sunset. This body of sea water was quite huge - maybe 30 meters in diameter. It was not too crowded and the temperature was just PERFECT for relaxing after a long day. As I soaked myself in the springs, I looked up and the sky was lit with stars!!! Oh WOW.
I turned to Luis and said "I cannot believe this is MY life right now". A day filled with great dives, beautiful weather, tremendous scenery, fantastic company, delicious food - then to end it at the hot springs - life is unbelievably good :-)
