I headed to the pier yesterday at 6am expecting to get in a 7:00am ferry. The ferry had been cancelled and the next one wasn't until 3:30pm!! And according to the ladies I had met in a bench, their 3:30pm ferry the day before was also cancelled and they had to spend the night!
Oh boy. I had read about the unreliability of local transportation in SE Asia, and some tourists had been stuck/stranded in some villages for days, so I knew I had to take this in a stride and go with the flow. There was nothing I can do anyway. The ladies and I took turns watching our luggage while we went looking for breakfast.

Finally 3:30pm came and luckily the ferry left right on time. My friend Luis, who is meeting me from NYC to join my adventure for 2 weeks, came to pick me up at the port on a rented motorbike. After getting lost for nearly an hour on the island, we finally made it to Lobok River Resort and settled in for a short 2-night stay on Bohol.

Today was INCREDIBLE. Absolutely incredible.
I drove a motorcycle for the first time. Not only did I actually operate a motorcycle, but I got to ride it through a luscious green jungle of tropics,
local villages as we waved to the children, and winding roads up and down the hills of stunning views. Riding a motorcycle is so exhilarating! Loved it, loved it, loved it!
Sure, I ate a handful of bugs and returned home with a layer of dirt and dust on my skin. But it was all worth it :)

Today was the only full day we had on the island of Bohol, so we woke up at the crack of dawn and got ready for the Tasier Sanctuary and Chocolate Hills which are the 2 main attractions on Bohol. The tasiers are the smallest primates that are endangered in this region. They were sooooo cute! There are sadly only a few hundred left in the wild.

We headed into the town of Tagbilaran but we were so exhausted from 8 hours of drive. We called it a day.

You look like you are having SO much fun !!!!!!
Why is it called Chocolate Hills?

oshioshi on

During the dry season, these green mounds turn brown, resembling Hershey's Kisses - hence the name chocolate hills!
