Flushing any paper in the toilet is forbidden in this town (or maybe in the whole country. I shall find out soon enough). This has been a complete change in the bathroom behavior. My body has been trained for over 3 decades to drop the paper once I wipe. It's been extremely difficult to reverse that training and place the paper in the basket bin!! I am getting good at remembering it, but every now and then my hand automatically drops the paper below. This will require some more time to adjust.

Today I left the resort for the first time and went to Dumaguete town. Actually it was the first time I walked anywhere in the Philippines and I was quite nervous for some reason! I had never been in a jeepney or a tricycle and had no idea how to hail them or get off or negotiate price. I sat on the street corner for a minute, watched the traffic, took a deep breath, collected myself and moved on.
Needless to say I survived the day in town :)
Walked quite a bit on Rizal Street (a Main Street along the ocean) and zigzagged around town. I made the mistake of heading down an alley where they were butchering animals and that was not something I would have ever wanted to see!! I bought some pork buns, sweets at a bakery, fruits from a street vendor and had fish fillet for lunch in a restaurant.

For some reason there is no traffic light in town. Crossing intersections were quite a challenge! I also figured that given my Asian looks and tanned skin color, I'd blend in with the crowd but I felt stares from all directions. I guess I don't fit in after all

Cappucino looks delish! Too bad Darwin could not have went with you....
Looks like he would have loved it!
How is the food?

That cappuccino was YUM! The food here is good but salty. And their staple is meat and rice with hardly any veg. So while the food has been good, I feel like my nourishment is very unbalanced! I will post some pics of food soon ;-)
