Today we saw Mt Cook and we went all the way to MT Cook Village to get the best view of the highest mountain in New Zealand. It stands at about 3500m, wow and we'd love to climb it but it would set up back a mere $4000...hmmm might have to give that a miss.We went to the Heritage hotel where Edmund Hillary used to stay when he was trying to climb it back in 1939. It was all very appropriate that we were here as its all over the news here about all the funneral arrangements for him.
Again we had a fantastic blue sky to give us the best view of the mountain and it was amazing, well worth making the journey inland to see it. From here we headed for ChristChurch. Had a bit of trouble finding a hostel as naturally we didn't have anything booked.....that would just be organised! We eventually got a place on base backpackers in the city center, grand for us. So we just headed out for an hour or two and were tucked up early enough after our long day of driving.
