After the Inca Trail it was time to hit the road again, we were heading South at this stage for Nasca and the famous Nasca lines. The Nasca lines were made by a Pre Incan race in an effort to get the gods to give them rain, well this is the most commonly accepted explanation for them, although some people think they were made by aliens etc... However the only way to see the lines is from the air so we booked a light aircraft to take us up to see them. We jumped on the bus (an overnighter) and set off , it was cold during the night and we felt our ears popping alot as we travelled through the night. We arrived into Nasca slightly later than expected and so there was no sign of the guy who was meant to pick us up, nice one . The first thing that hit us was the heat of the place, it was absolutely boiling and a total desert. Of course we had the usual salesmen coming up to us asking us did we want a lift, flight, accomodation etc, one of the taxi men  was funny though as he was pushing hard for his sale but sure we had no interest in him, eventually he got the idea and went off to help someone else, but sure the car wouldnt start, the poor fella, eventually he got it going with a cloud of black smoke to boot and off he went Hands
Hands
. We made it to our flight centre anyway and got signed up with Freddy. Our flight was at 2 o clock so we went out for some food (not too much as the plane has the reputation for being very rough) then we made it back but the flight was delayed until 3 o clock, a bit worrying as we had heard some horror stories about cancelled flights and fake police etc all very dodgey stuff, but we held tough and at 3 o clock we got going. There were only 2 of us and 3 Polish women on the flight, and everyone gets a window seat which was good. The flight lasts about 30 mins and it was very rough, as one of the Poles will testify But we saw all of the lines and to be honest it was a brilliant sight, we got some excellent photos too, eventhough at the time we were a bit worried about how they would turn out cos of the speed and rough flying. After the flight we were shown a video explaining how the lines were made and why they were made etc so it was all very good. Then back to Nasca and we went to this hotel that lets you go for a swim and have a sandwich as a deal, a great idea. Well we walked away in with our back packs and us covered in dust and just dropped the bags and dived in for a swim in the outdoor pool, oh was it nice.... we were the roughest looking people there but did we care, not a jot. Out for a quick walk around the streets then and then onto our next bus another overnighter to Arequipa. As we got on the bus we were video cameraed, initially we thought oh yeah they are making a promotion and just want some people on the video, nope, apparantley hi jackings are popular enough by night on this route so they video everyone getting on for evidence later we were so innocent really.
