The Pilgrim Monument commemorates the "first landing" of the Mayflower Pilgrims in Provincetown on November 21, 1620.  At 252 feet plus it is the tallest all-granite structure in the United States.

Elderhostel over, it was Saturday and we intended to take the 9 AM fast ferry to Provincetown, Cape Cod.  Looking at our schedule for the Inner Harbor Ferry from the Navy Yard, we discovered no pickups before 9 AM. We had to call a cab to get us to Long Wharf.

The ride to Provincetown by the Cape Cod Fast Ferry was 90 minutes. The seas were pretty rough but I didn't get sea sick, thank goodness. We did have a bit of a scare though. John was on a higher deck and I was sitting on a lower one. He came down to tell me that the trip had just gotten a LOT more expensive! The wind had blown off his hat and his glasses and along with those went one hearing aid. He had caught the hat and glasses but not the hearing aid.  As I started to commiserate, I looked down at the deck a few feet from where I was sitting and said, "What is that?" You guessed it! The hearing aid---a welcome sight!

Provincetown was a neat town, pretty crowded with people. The National Gay Pilots organization was there; I would never have guessed there was such a thing. We walked to the Pilgrim Monument, an imposing landmark. We climbed all the way to the top---116 steps and 60 ramps---challenging for us, but well worth it. The view from the top was amazing! We were rewarded with stickers that said "I Made It To The Top."

That workout gave us an appetite! We happened upon Bubala's by the Bay. The name was interesting and it looked quaint so we stopped for lunch. I had my first lobster roll, something like tuna salad only with lobster. Yummy!

We wandered along the picturesque streets, browsed in a few shops but bought nothing except ice cream after a while.
About 3:30 we headed back to the ferry and by 4 we were underway, back to Boston. It was an enjoyable day but once again, we were pooped!
