"Las Vegas: all the amenities of modern society in a habitat unfit to grow a tomato."
                                            -Jason Love

Another breakfast at Denny's---close by and plenty of food for the money. Then we made another visit to Tix4Tonight and got vouchers for "The Peep Show." We decided we needed to do something a little risque in Las Vegas seeing that we had vowed not to gamble even a nickel! (We kept that promise, by the way.) We had to walk to Planet Hollywood to get our tickets---a considerable distance.  No real evidence of recession here, like going to Walt Disney World with crowds of people spending money right and left!  (I hope WDW can forgive that comparison!) Shopped along the way---a CSI tshirt and visor for me and a Las Vegas visor for John. Since I have been a long-time fan of "CSI" we decided we shouldn't miss The CSI Experience at MGM. We had no idea how far that was or how huge the MGM Hotel is!  The CSI Experience was fun; John and I worked as a team, solved our crime and earned a diploma.

On the way back down the Strip we explored the Miracle Mile shopping mall and stopped for lunch at Ocean One---nothing to write home about. In the short time we have been here we've learned to intensely dislike the people on every corner advertising "GIRLS" and the frequent sidewalk detours through casinos---loud, smoky places we didn't need or want to visit.  The nicknames of "Gambling Capital of the World" and "Entertainment Capital of the World" (Adult should be added to this last one!) are well-earned, I suppose.

We ended up at the Venetian for our scheduled gondola ride.  Umberto was our singing boatman.  We shared the ride with a young couple from Arizona.  It was enjoyable but pretty short-lived.  Bought gelatos to savor on the way back to TI.

There was some R & R time before dinner at the TI Buffet.  With a BOGO coupon, received as part of our accomodations package and $20+ we had to pay, it was NO bargain!  The buffet pretty much sucked!  After dinner we had to walk to Planet Hollywood again for "The Peep Show" which was somewhat entertaining, nowhere near the quality of the last two shows we had seen.

Another L-O-N-G-G-G walk got us back to our room, really relieved to give our poor dogs a rest! We're feeling we've done more hiking here than in the national parks!  A word to the wise: If you are going to be in Vegas more than a day and choose to forego a rental car, plan to use the buses or the monorail system that runs behind the casinos from the Sahara to the MGM Grand.

June 23
The next morning's agenda included packing, quick bite at Starbucks, shuttle to the airport and winging our way home.
If you have seen my posts from September 13 up to this one, you may have noticed lots fewer photos in the Las Vegas ones.  We learned, and you can see, we are much more into national parks than sparkly big cities! Everglades and Yellowstone are next.
