"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves."
-John Muir, from Our National Parks

Arrived at McCarran Airport, Las Vegas, September 13, around 2 PM. We were so surprised to see slot machines all around! By the time we got back to the airport a week and a half later we were used to seeing them everywhere!  Our hotel sent a courtesy van to pick us up.
We checked into our room around 4 and found it to be quite spacious and comfortable. Next we went to register with Road Scholar and pick up our materials. The program is called Color Country National Parks: Zion, Bryce and Grand Canyon North Rim, #11573.  We already knew our coordinators, David and Mary Best, and greeted them with hugs. In 2009 we had done the RS Grand Canyon, Rim to Rim with them in Arizona and remembered them so fondly.

Having had only snacks since breakfast, and jumping over time zones as well, we were starved. So we walked over to a nearby restaurant called Half Shell for drinks and appetizers. Once again, gambling machines all around, even on top of the bar!

A buffet dinner was being served when we returned to the hotel. After dinner there were introductions and orientation. We were a bit surprised to see many women on our tour, with fewer couples than usual. Also we had attended the most Road Scholar programs at 14 and several participants were participating in their first!
