We awake from last nights feast, still full, and make our way to another huge Sri Lanken breakfast. We attack this meal with a little less enthusiasm than our last one but manage to make a respectable dent in the mounds of food placed before us. We pay our bill, pack our bags and make our way to the bus stop to catch a local transport to our next destination, Uda Walawe National Park. At the bus stop we meet a French couple that's going in the same direction and we decide to share a car and driver instead of taking the public bus (or three). Oh happy days.

The drive takes us out of the hill country and into the flat lands of Sri Lanka. The lush green valleys, waterfalls and mountains are replaced by brown savannahs, shrubs and rivers. The switchbacks are replaced by long straight roads and we start picking up speed. Along the way we spot an elephant along the side of the road, and packs of buffalo cooling themselves in the mud.

We arrive at out hotel (Kottawatta Village) and settle in our room, which resembles an African hut complete with thatch roof and stone floors. Oh and did I mention there's a tree in the middle of the room. There's a quaint patio as well where we relax with a fresh fruit cocktail.

After a quick lunch we decide to walk into town and check out the scene. It's a short walk as town is all of five blocks long. We pass the usual stalls and shops and decide to head back as there's not much for us to do here.

Back at the hotel we have a light dinner and get ready for bed. Tomorrow we have a 6 am start for our safaris. After all its elephants we came here to see.
