Today is another transit day as we make our way from Dalhousie to Ella. Our taxi ride from the guest house to the train station winds its way through the mountains covered in tea plants. Our driver speaks good English and we compare the state of affairs in Canada and Sri Lanka while passing waterfalls along the road.

The train is an hour late again so we chill out at the station, watching the locals go about the business and reviewing our experiences thus far. Once our train finally arrives we settle into our seats in the observation car and look forward to the 4 hour journey to our new destination.

The little hill city of Ella has become a popular stop along the backpacker trail through Sri Lanka. It's main scenic draw is the Ella Gap, but the real reason to visit is to enjoy the laid back vibe and enjoy some great home cooked Sri Lanken food.

Upon arrival at the Ella train station we find a tuk tuk driver outside the station entrance who takes us to our guest house, the Rawana Holiday Resort. A fancy name for a budget but friendly guest house. We write down our driver's name and mobile number in case we need him in the future and make our way to our rooms.

A walk through the small town leads us to the Dream Cafe where we enjoy a few beers and partake in a few short eats. We discuss our plans for the upcoming day then return to our guest house.

Dinner requests had to be made four hours in advance so that the cooks would have time to prepare the numerous components that make up our meal. Sweet-and-sour eggplant, spicy potato curry, garlic curry, fried rice, milky lentil curry, ginger spinach, pineapple chutney, coconut sambal and papa dams all grace our table in an Sri Lanken feast fit for a raj.
